The Horry County Pearls, Inc., is a 501(c)3, non-profit foundation in affiliation with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mu Iota Omega Chapter (hereafter MIO). Their purpose is to provide charitable and education programs and activities to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Horry County South Carolina. The organization operates as the MIO Center.
Formed in 2012, the foundation’s goals are to: a) Educate and create awareness of critical issues and concerns that impact our communities; b) Enrich the lives of our youth and seniors through programs and activities that support education, build social connectedness, and to make life better for them and their families; c) Empower our communities to become advocates for the homeless, the disenfranchised and all those who have no voice or whose voices are not heard.
The MIO Center provides a space where programs and activities centered around our purpose as well as event space can be offered. The Center has hosted birthday parties, weddings, showers, receptions, senior activities, student tutoring and community group meetings. Our Venue: Our 2,250 square foot building has been newly renovated and provides an intimate main hall space accommodating 60 -80* people and a separate conference room with space for 12. It has a 10’ x10’ brick patio and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen provides ample space for serving with a refrigerator, microwave, and warming oven.
The Center offers rental opportunities including tables and chairs for renter use. Rental rate is $375. Note: The Center follows all Local, State, and National Covid 19 guidelines. Smoking is not permitted inside or outside of the facility. *Based on room configuration and set up.
